The Saber Tactical Modular Chassis: From Airguns to Rimfire and Centerfire Precision Shooting

The Saber Tactical Modular Chassis: From Airguns to Rimfire and Centerfire Precision Shooting

By Chris Turek - The UpNorth Airgunner

I set out on this trip to just review the FX DRS platform in the new Saber Tactical Chassis, but I got a bit of a surprise when I was in Florida about some new innovations they have cooked up around this chassis system. There is some exciting breaking news when it comes to the Saber Tactical Chassis for the FX DRS and now for rimfire and centerfire precision shooting!.

Saber Tactical and FX DRS: Elevating the Game

During my visit to the Saber Tactical and DonnyFL headquarters in Florida, I got an in-depth look at the magic behind the FX DRS platform. Saber Tactical is known for designing chassis that push the boundaries of precision, and taking some of our favorite FX Airguns to a whole new level.

One of the most exciting updates is Saber Tactical’s new chassis for the Remington 700 platform. Shooters using rifles like the Bergara B14R, Vudoo, or RimX can now enjoy the benefits of a Saber Tactical chassis. It’s a modular design that works for everything from PRS competitions with .22LR to hunting with calibers like the 6.5 Creedmoor. But first, let’s focus on what’s new in the airgun world.

FX DRS Classic: Versatility at Its Best

The FX DRS Classic is perfect for shooters like me who value versatility. Whether I’m plinking with pellets in my backyard, hunting small game, or dabbling in PRS-style matches, this platform has me covered. And now, with the option to drop the FX DRS Classic into a Saber Tactical chassis, it’s even more customizable.

Saber Tactical Chassis: Thoughtful Features

Let’s explore some key features of the Saber Tactical chassis for the FX DRS, from back to front:

Rear Section

  • Skeletonized Buttstock: Lightweight and minimalistic without compromising strength.

  • Rubberized Buttpad: Excellent grip and stability against your shoulder.

  • Adjustable Cheek Riser: Locks firmly in place with zero movement.

Action Area

  • Enlarged Trigger Guard: Ideal for gloved hands during cold-weather hunts.

  • Bubble Level: Ensures precise alignment during every shot.

  • AR-Style Grip Compatibility: Allows for easy grip customization.

Front Section

  • M-LOK Slots: Add weights or accessories to balance the chassis for optimal performance.

  • ARCA Swiss Rail: A versatile attachment point for bipods or tripods.

  • Picatinny Rail Section: Perfect for non-ARCA bipods without extra adapters.

DonnyFL Suppressors: Quiet Precision

No precision airgun setup is complete without a DonnyFL suppressor. I paired the DonnyFL Yokozuna with my FX DRS Classic, and it’s a perfect match. The suppressor’s outer diameter aligns seamlessly with the outer diameter of the fill source over-the-barrel system developed by FX Airguns. The modular baffle system of the Yokozuna is also an excellent tool for harmonic tuning. This combination lets you fine-tune for tighter groups while keeping your shots whisper-quiet.

Rediscovering Pellets

Using the FX DRS Classic with 15.9-grain AEA pellets, I was reminded of how enjoyable and precise pellet shooting can be. At 40 yards, even with a light breeze, the groups were impressive. While slugs dominate for long-range and power, there’s something satisfying about the simplicity and accuracy of a perfectly tuned pellet setup. The modular design of the FX DRS Classic makes it easy to switch between pellets and slugs depending on your needs with the ability to swap to the higher power valve and increased plenum space of the innovative plenum location of where a magazine would normally be.

Breaking News: Saber Tactical Chassis for the Remington 700 and Beyond

Saber Tactical has made a major move with their new chassis for the Remington 700 platform. Currently, it supports popular rimfire actions like the Bergara B14R .22LR rimfire and centerfire calibers such as the 6.5 Creedmoor. But what truly sets this chassis apart is its modular center action section, which paves the way for future compatibility with actions like Tikka and CZ and swappable fore-ends and buttstock to fit the specific use of the platform from PRS to Hunting and everything in between.

This forward-thinking design ensures that the chassis remains adaptable for years to come. Whether you’re using a Remington 700 today or plan to transition to a Tikka or CZ action inlets down the line, this system will be ready to accommodate your needs.

Key Features:

  • AICS Magazine Compatibility: Flawless feeding and zero play for consistent performance.

  • Lightweight Build: Ideal for stripped-down hunting setups.

  • Multiple Sling Mounts: Versatile carrying options for various applications.

By expanding its compatibility, Saber Tactical is creating a chassis that meets the demands of both airgun and firearm enthusiasts, ensuring its place as a must-have for precision shooters.

Final Thoughts

The FX DRS platform and Saber Tactical chassis deliver on every level, whether you’re an airgun enthusiast or a precision rifle shooter. The FX DRS Classic offers unmatched versatility, while the FX DRS Pro is a powerhouse for serious competition. And with Saber Tactical’s expanding compatibility for the Remington 700 platform—including future support for Tikka and CZ and other popular .22LR and center-fire actions—the possibilities are endless.

If you’re looking to elevate your shooting experience, this is the gear to do it. Pair the FX DRS with a Saber Tactical chassis and a DonnyFL suppressor, and you’ll have a setup that combines precision, adaptability, and style. Thanks for joining me—until next time, keep shooting straight and stay safe!
