Back in June of 2020 I made a bold statement on the channel, that the Air Venturi Avenger was the best budget airgun I had ever shot, period. I had taken a few fair jabs for mostly showing airguns that cost more than my first car, which was a rusted out 1984 Chevy S-10 I bought from my dad, and the Avenger was the rifle that proved a regulated PCP did not have to be expensive to be good. Rifles like the Avenger and the Umarex Origin have brought a lot of new shooters into PCPs since then, and the most common question those shooters ask is how to make the gun quieter so it is backyard friendly. In this Field Notes post I want to answer that with the setup we recommend.

The DonnyFL A70 adapter for the Air Venturi Avenger, Umarex Origin, Ascent and Seneca Aspen.
Quick Summary
- The adapter: A70, 1/2 x 20 male, 6061 T6, fits the Avenger, Umarex Origin, Air Venturi Ascent and Seneca Aspen, .177 to .25.
- Alignment: it goes over the barrel to help center alignment, which reduces the chance of a clip.
- Not compatible: it does not fit any Avenge X or XL series airgun.
- Our pick: the DonnyFL Tanto, which reduces the muzzle report well and does not need to come off to fill the gun.
- Aspen alternative: the Nova Vista Liberty/Seneca Aspen, used with a moderator one caliber size up.

The Avenger and Origin Extender Adapter
The Air Venturi Avenger Extender / Umarex Origin A70 adapter gives these rifles 1/2 x 20 male threads for a moderator. It is 6061 T6 aluminum in black anodize and is compatible with .177 through .25 caliber, and in addition to the Avenger and Origin it also fits the Air Venturi Ascent and the Seneca Aspen.
The most important design detail is that the adapter goes over the barrel to help center alignment. On a budget rifle, the relationship between the barrel and the shroud is not always perfectly concentric, and an adapter that centers the barrel reduces the chance of a pellet clipping and helps precision.
What it does not fit
Please note that the A70 does not fit any of the Avenge X or XL series airguns. Those rifles are a different design, and if you own one of them, reach out before ordering so we can point you in the right direction.

Seneca Aspen owners can also use the A50 with a moderator one caliber size up.

Why the Tanto Is Our Pick for the Avenger
We highly recommend the DonnyFL Tanto for the Avenger. It does a really good job reducing the muzzle report, and you do not need to remove it to fill the gun, which is a real quality of life improvement on a rifle you will be filling often.
The Tanto is 1.22 x 5 inches and weighs between 3.5 and 4.1 ounces depending on endcap, so it keeps a light rifle light and balanced. For a .22 Avenger mounted through the A70, follow the shroud rule and choose the .22/.25 Tanto with the 1/2 x 20 Bolt endcap. We covered the Tanto in more depth in our Tanto Field Notes for pistols and compact PCPs.

The Tanto is our recommendation for the Avenger because it reduces report and leaves room to fill.
Want more quiet?
If you have tuned your Avenger up in power, a larger moderator will reduce the report further, and the Sumo is the natural step up. Just check that you still have access to the fill port with your chosen moderator installed.
The Seneca Aspen Option
Seneca Aspen owners have a second choice. The Nova Vista Liberty/Seneca Aspen lets you screw on a 1/2 x 20 moderator and comes with a knurled cap in matte black anodize. With the A50, make sure to use a moderator one caliber size up, which works really well and reduces the chance of a pellet clipping.

Getting the Most From a Budget PCP
A moderator is one of the best upgrades you can make to an entry level PCP, because it changes how the rifle feels to shoot and how welcome it is in a neighborhood setting. Combined with good pellets and a solid zero, a quiet Avenger or Origin is an outstanding backyard pest and plinking rifle.
Avenger and Origin Setup Checklist
Confirm you have an Avenger, Origin, Ascent or Aspen, not an Avenge X or XL.
Install the A70 so it seats over the barrel and centers it.
Choose a Tanto one size up from your caliber with the 1/2 x 20 Bolt endcap.
Check fill port access, then re-zero.

Final Thoughts
The Avenger and the Origin proved that a great PCP does not have to cost a fortune, and a moderator is how you make one a true backyard friendly rifle. The A70 and a Tanto are a simple, proven pairing, and once you have shot one set up that way, it is hard to go back.
